PERIYAR TIGER RESERVE (PTR) is one of the most visited protected areas in India, bagged the title of the managed Tiger Reserve among 54 Tiger Reserves in the country in terms of the Management Effectiveness Assessment in 2022 by National t The Diversity of Wildlife includes Indian Elephant (Elephas maximus), Bengal TigerĀ (Panthera tigris), SambarĀ (Cervus unicolour), GaurĀ (Bos gaurus), LeopardĀ (Prionailurus bengalensis), Indian Wild dogĀ (Cuon alpinus), Barking deerĀ (Muntiacus muntjak), Mouse deerĀ (Tragulus meminna), Monitor lizardĀ (Varanus bengalensis) and a variety of birds and reptile species. PTR is rich in endemism with three unique species of flora and seven species of Fish. PTR is situated in the 37′ 10.2ā N and longitudes 76Ā° 56′ 12.12ā and 77Ā° 25′ 5.52ā E. Administratively, PTR falls in the Idukki, Cardamom Hills and Pandalam Hills of the Southern Western Ghats between latitudes 9Ā° 17′ 56.04ā and 90 Kottayam, and Pathanamthitta districts of Kerala.
