The name GEM (Gastroenterology Medical Centre and Hospital) is derived from its speciality. Establishing the first centre in Coimbatore in 2001 was Asia’s first and most advanced tertiary health care centre, in the field of Gastroenterology and Laparoscopic Surgery.

Over the years, it has grown exponentially gaining wide patronage of patients from India as well as abroad. GEM Hospital and Research Centre also became the first centre to establish subspecialties within gastroenterology like Bariatric surgery, Hepatobiliary surgery, Colorectal surgery, GI Cancer Surgery, Endogynaecology etc.
